Preparation is key when it comes to a successful concrete project. Whether its a large scale project or a small domestic project here at Barrowcrete we always aim to ensure the best results. By following some simple steps you can make sure that your site is fully prepared to save any delays or issues on delivery day.
Access – The most important aspect for a smooth delivery is the accessibility. We need to be able to position the concrete delivery truck for the pour. To do thus ensure the path is clear for the driver to manoeuvre the vehicle we usually ask for 3 metres width for the access route. The overhead clearance should be 4 metres also. If we are delivering a large pour ensure the turning radius is adequate for the truck and remove any obstacles that maybe in the way. The ground for access should be in good condition to prevent the vehicle becoming stuck which can cause delays. Scaffold boards or plates could be layed to ensure that the truck is not stuck on soft ground.
Ground preparation – Preparing the ground for the pour is helpful to ensure a great result. The ground needs to be excavated to the right depth to allow for the thickness of the concrete plus any subbase requirements. The excavated ground needs to be well compacted and the subbase fully consolidated. Ensure the level is fully consolidated.#
Framework – Edge restraints are vital to ensure that the shape and dimension of the concrete pour is as you want it to be. Timber framework is the most popular for this as they can withstand the pressure from concrete. Ensure the framework is secured and the top of the framework needs to be at the level for the finish you need,
Protect utilities and services – Before an excavation make sure any utilities and services under the ground are protected. This can be done by contacting your local utilities and services providers to see where any cables and pipes may be. If services do run through the area you will need to discuss with them protecting these as if not it can be costly as well as dangerous and cause issues further down the line.
Weather – The weather can affect concrete pours so keep an eye on forecast for any adverse weather in order to ensure the best quality of the finish.
Tools – Make sure you have any required equipment such as wheelbarrows and levelling equipment ready for the day of the pour to avoid any issues and delays.
Following these steps can ensure a successful pour and end result from your concrete delivery in Manchester by Barrowcrete.
